Liposuction of the female back can produce dramatic improvements. The fat on the back can be subdivided into several important areas:

• Infra-scapular fat (female flanks) is located above the waist and below the shoulder blades. This is the unsightly fat that bulges just below the bra strap. When a tight bra is worn, this area tends to bulge-out more prominently. With increasing degrees of obesity the infra-scapular back can accumulate so much fat that the skin and subcutaneous tissue can bunch-up forming parallel rolls of fat. 
  
• Posterior axillary fat is located on the upper-outer back near the armpit.
• Posterior waist fat is located above and behind the hips.
• Lumbo-sacral fat pad is located in midline of the lower back, just above the tailbone.
• Buffalo hump consists of fat located on the upper back near the neck. Increasing obesity, is often associated with an increasingly prominent accumulation of fatty tissue on the mid upper back. This area is known as the Cervico-Dorsal Hump or the Buffalo Hump.

HOW IS THE SURGERY PERFORMED?

Basically speaking, it is a form of Liposuction. However it must be carefully done, and Dr Wilson routinely uses fine cannulas to minimize trauma to the skin. The keyword is to avoid over-liposuction.

HOW DOES WEIGHT LOSS AFFECT THE RESULTS?

With weight loss by dieting, the fat cells become smaller but the fibrous tissue remains. Thus after a large weight loss, the remaining compartment of fat will be relatively more fibrous. Consequently, when treating patients with rolls of fat on the back, liposuction is relatively easy if the patient is near her maximum all-time weight. For another patient of the same height and weight who has lost a considerable degree of weight, liposuction of the same area is much more difficult. 

RISKS OF THE SURGERY

This is a relatively straight forward safe surgery. However the skin on the back is especially susceptible to liposuction-induced hyperpigmentation of the skin surrounding incision sites. This might need treatment with local creams to remove the dark pigmentation.

Sometimes excessive liposuction may injure the under-surface of the skin and cause  untoward discoloration of the skin known as erythema ab liporaspiration, that also needs treatment with lightening creams.

Back and Bra Line Liposuction in a 37- year old Female:

This patient was unhappy with the creases and fat in her back, infrascapular and bra line areas.  Vaser liposuction was used to remove them.

Bra Line Liposuction in 62 year old Female:

This patient was unhappy with the creases and fat in her back, and had bra line liposuction to remove them.

Back Belt Lift and Liposuction in 34 year old Male:

This patient lost 32 kg of weight following a sleeve gastrectomy, and had lax back skin and bulging flanks. A full belt lipectomy was performed and back Vaser High definition 4Dimensional Liposuction to correct the problem. Not the cosmetic appearance of the back, and the scar which is placed to be hidden by the boxers.

Back and Bra Line Liposuction in a 34- year old Female:

This patient was unhappy with the creases in her back, buffalo hump,  and bra line areas.  Laser liposuction was used to remove them.
